Jerome, Arizona Artists
Jerome, Arizona has become one
of the leading tourist destinations in all of Arizona. While today Jerome has a
busy shopping district, this was not always the case. Much of the reason Jerome
has grown has been due to the artists and craftspeople who opened unique shops
and art galleries in Jerome when it was a ghost town. Today Jerome is noted not
only for unique one of a kind items, but also for art offered in other
locations at much higher prices.
Jerome's artists offer pieces in
every concievable medium that can be worked, and you might even find something
nobody has ever worked before. Jerome is filled with talented artists and
craftspeople.
Mark Hemleben
Hemleben paints with energetic
emotion. With a well controlled stroke he translates onto canvas a feeling of
life. Dynamic and hypnotic, his paintings constantly capture you and reveal
more, drawing you in when suddenly you see them in a new light or from a
different angle, revealing poetically in rich color a landscape rarely
treasured with the naked eye. From working on a grand scale with his art, as a
mural artist for private and corporate locations around the states and Mexico,
Hemleben has also traveled the world when serving as a U.S. marine, and since
on painting commissions and retreats. Mr. Hemleben is from Lafayette, Louisiana
where he studied at Louisiana State and then at Long Beach, CA. (at one time he
taught history) where he lived in an Artist Colony. Mark, a professional plein
air landscape painter since1996 is now living with his wife in Jerome and
continues to grow "with ear sunrise and sunset."

Anne Bassett
Since 1982, internationally
recognized artist Anne Bassett has documented the historic town of Jerome's
unique visual heritage during a period of restoration and growth. She finds the
medium of pen and ink fitting to the intricate historical detail. Freely done
watercolors capture moods and the odd colors from the opened earth and mining
activities. Architects in particular appreciate that while most anyone can draw
a plumb building, capturing the skewed buildings of Jerome and depicting that
it is not an error in art, but rather architecturally correct, underscores
Bassett's outstanding skill as an artist. Bassett studied at A.S.U. from 1965
to 1975 and did an apprenticeship with Rainbow Tourraine from 1977 through
1981.
